Golden Shears Salon is Carrying on a Family Legacy

Over 40 years ago, Jackie Butler’s mother, Carmela Cantu, had the vision of opening a hair salon with the goal of making everyone feel welcome when they entered the doors of her salon and feel beautiful when they left. Carmela also had a heart for serving the community, and her daughter continues to strive for those same goals and commitment to community as she carries on the Golden Shears Salon legacy today.

The original salon was located in Old Town Spring, but for the last 13 years has called their location on Rayford Road in Spring, Texas home. Golden Shears Salon exemplifies the meaning of a successful family-owned and operated business. On any given day, you may even find Jackie’s Dad, Robert, in the salon cleaning or making small repairs. As a family run business they are delighted to be your entire family’s full service hair salon.

Jackie Butler

When Jackie was four years old her mother went to beauty school to become a hairstylist. From time to time, while attending school, Carmela had to bring Jackie to school with her, and Jackie would explore the classrooms on her visits. Jackie distinctly remembers watching a student frost a client’s hair with the old school frosting cap, standing and staring in awe and being mesmerized by everything that was happening. In that moment, she knew that she would follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a hairstylist too.

A Heart For Community

Over 40 years ago, Carmela Cantu opened her salon with a heart of giving back to her community and the commitment to make everyone feel welcome and beautiful. Today, Jackie continues that legacy in business and in her community. Jackie has continued to carry on the traditions that her mother started. She lives by a quote from John Paul DeJoria-“Success unshared is failure.” With the success they have earned over the last 40 years these are just a few ways they have shared their accomplishments and given back to the community.
